The compulsive performative task of nationalism, thrust violently on the people of India by the iron hand surrounded by the smoke of incense, i.e., the pithy violent hand of global capital camouflagued by the halo of a "redeeming majority religion", is at work here, now. This was the main concern voiced by Dr M V Narayanan of the Department of English, University of Calicut, Kerala, when he sat with the Janaavishkaara Chief Editor P.K.Shivadas for a pre-lecture interview at Palakkad. The occasion: the Eric Hobsbawm Centenary Lecture organised jointly by the Kerala Sahitya Akademi and the Janaavishkaara People's Participatory Portal to mark the 80th year of the progressive literature movement in the sub-continent.
